The new 4,300-foot Veterans Memorial Bridge in South Omaha, Neb., replaces a narrow and structurally deficient bridge. The river span is a 625-foot truss to accommodate the 590-foot clear navigation span required by the U.S. Coast Guard. The bridge provides a direct route across the Missouri River to the Omaha Stockyards for livestock delivery trucks.

The South Omaha Veterans Memorial was a continuous warren through truss bridge built in 1936 over the Missouri River connecting Omaha, Nebraska with Council Bluffs, Iowa via U.S. Highway 275.

The new bridge provides for four 12-foot-wide thru lanes and a 4-foot-wide raised median with 10-foot-wide shoulders and a 10-foot-wide bike trail. The project used 2800 cy of concrete, 14 miles of piling, 6 miles of prestressed girders and epoxy-coated reinforcing steel throughout the deck.
