The Provo City Center LDS Temple is being constructed on the same site as the former Provo Tabernacle in Provo, Utah. The Temple sits northeast of Brigham Young University and directly east of the Missionary Training Center. In 2010 a fire was reported at the 129-year-old tabernacle and later the ceiling collapsed, but the walls were left intact.

In 2012, ground was broken for the Provo City Center Temple. The Provo City Center Temple will recapture the historic beauty of the former Provo Tabernacle through meticulous preservation. The remaining tabernacle structure was fortified with six to 10 inches of reinforced concrete, combined with three rows of brick . The space for two below-grade stories of the temple was excavated before work to build the stories commenced.

The rebuilding required excavation of 40 feet. The temple will consist of four levels —two above ground and two below. The main entrances to the temple will be on the south side near the 50-car surface parking lot and through the 245-car underground parking area. The underground parking structure is being constructed using epoxy-coated reinforcing steel. The underground parking will allow church landscapers to turn the grounds surrounding the temple into a place of beauty in the heart of downtown Provo. The new temple’s district will serve members of the LDS Church in eight Springville and eight Provo stakes.
