Accelerated Bridge Construction
The Mississippi River Bridge project will create a new gateway between Illinois and Missouri that provides better connections to and through St. Louis. The project includes a landmark cable-stayed bridge, and the realignment and reconstruction of Interstate 70 and numerous local roads on both sides of the state line.
The 2803 ft long cable-stayed bridge has a main span of 1500 ft and will carry four mainline traffic lanes with room to add a lane in each direction. It is designed so that a companion bridge could be built beside it. The bridge will be the third longest in the U.S. and is supported by cables suspended from 400-feet tall towers.
All reinforcing steel within the deck, protruding into the deck and barrier curbs, in pier caps beneath deck expansion joints, and in other substructure elements within 25 ft. of roadways is epoxy-coated for corrosion protection.
